- Clean the lint screen and check the vent
Pull the screen straight up and clear it by hand. If it feels waxy, wash it with mild soap and water. Then pull the flexible duct off the back of the dryer and vacuum the duct plus the outside exhaust hood. Blocked air drives the heating circuit up to its high-temperature limit until it shuts off, and it's the most common reason the safety parts blow.
- Check the breaker, both halves of it
An electric dryer runs on 240 volts, fed by a double breaker. Trip one half and the drum still turns, the lights still come on, the heat goes away. Flip the dryer breaker all the way off, then back on, then run a timed high heat cycle to see what happens.
- Gas models: confirm the shutoff valve is open
A gas Maytag tumbles happily with the gas off. Look behind the machine at the supply line. The valve handle should run parallel to the pipe. Crosswise means closed.
- Try a straight timed dry on high heat
Sensor cycles cut out early when fabric softener residue coats the moisture sensor bars. Put in a small load, choose Timed Dry on the high heat setting, and feel the exhaust air after ten minutes. Heat on that run points at the sensing side, so the heating system itself is fine.
- Lighten the load and wring out soaking clothes
A stuffed drum chokes off air circulation. Clothes that came out of the washer dripping will stay cold and clammy deep into the cycle. Split the load, run it again, see what you get. That won't cure a real no-heat fault, though it clears the simplest explanation off the list.
- Look for a reset button, then stop looking
Maytag dryers, Bravos XL included, have no heat reset button. The thermal fuse is a one-time safety part, so it gets replaced rather than reset. Any advice telling you to hunt for a reset doesn't apply to these machines.
