A Frigidaire that won't get cold has either lost airflow or lost its ability to dump heat, and the single most common cause is condenser coils packed with dust. One tech puts dirty coils and airflow blockage at roughly 60% of the no-cool calls that come through his shop.
Check these first
Safe to do yourself. Unplug the appliance before you start.
- Make sure it actually has power (and isn't in demo mode)
Check the interior light and the control panel. If the outlet is a GFCI, press the reset button. Some Frigidaires get bumped into a showroom demo mode where the lights and fans work while the compressor never runs, so if everything looks alive but nothing gets cold, look up the demo exit code for your model.
- Clean the condenser coils
Unplug the fridge, pop off the lower front grille, or pull the unit out and look at the back. If the coils look like they're wearing a fur coat, that's your problem. Twenty minutes with a vacuum and a coil brush fixes a large share of these, and it costs nothing but time.
- Feel for air coming out of the fresh food vent
If the freezer is still cold but the fridge is warm, reach up to the vent (usually in the ceiling or upper back wall of the fridge section) and feel for moving air. No air with the fan audible in the freezer points to a stuck damper. No air and no fan sound points to the evaporator fan motor.
- Check the door seal with a bill
Close the door on a dollar bill and tug. You should feel resistance. If it slides out with none, the gasket is leaking cold air, and warm humid air getting in can also frost up the damper flapper. Clean the gasket with warm soapy water first, since sticky gunk is often all that's holding it open.
- Listen near the compressor
Stand behind the fridge for a few minutes. A click, then a pause, then another click every few minutes usually means the start relay is failing rather than the compressor dying. Frigidaire PTC relays tend to give up somewhere around the four to seven year mark.
- Reset power and give it a full day
Unplug for five minutes, plug it back in, then leave it alone. Temperatures need about 24 hours to settle after any reset or coil cleaning. Put a thermometer inside so you're reading real numbers instead of guessing.

How do I reset a Frigidaire refrigerator?
Unplug it, or flip its breaker off, and wait five minutes before restoring power. That clears most stored error codes. Give it a full 24 hours afterward before you judge whether it's holding temperature.
My freezer is cold but the fridge is warm. Is that still a cooling problem?
Yes, and it's the most telling symptom there is. It almost always means cold air isn't getting from the freezer into the fridge section, which points at the evaporator fan or the damper rather than the compressor.
Does the room temperature around the fridge matter?
It does. Refrigerators are designed to work in a room around 70F, and a spot that sits near 90F or higher cuts their cooling capacity. A fridge crammed next to an oven or sitting in direct sun will struggle even when everything inside it works.
Is a Frigidaire worth repairing when it stops cooling?
Usually, if the fault is a fan motor, damper, relay, or defrost part. Those are ordinary wear items and the repair is straightforward. A sealed system failure on a fridge past ten years is the one case where replacement usually makes more sense.
Can I chip the ice off the evaporator coils myself?
Don't. A screwdriver or knife will puncture a refrigerant line and finish the fridge off for good. Unplug it and let the ice melt, then have a technician find out why the defrost system stopped working.
