Samsung washer SC code: what it means and how to fix it

SC, and its newer form 5C, means the washer couldn't empty the tub in the time the control expected, so it halted the cycle and flagged a drainage fault. Nine times out of ten it's a clogged drain pump filter, the little screw-in trap behind the small access door at the bottom front of front-load models.
Check these first
Safe to do yourself. Unplug the appliance before you start.
- Cut power for a couple of minutes
Unplug the washer, or switch off its breaker, and wait two to three minutes. Restore power and start a drain and spin. A reset on its own almost never clears a real clog, but it does rule out a one-time glitch and confirms the code is real.
- Drain the tub before you open anything
Pop open that small panel at the lower front. Pull out the short black hose, take the cap off, and let the water run into a shallow pan or a bottle, emptying it over and over until the flow stops. Skip this and you'll have a lake on the laundry floor.
- Unscrew and clean the pump filter
Turn the filter counterclockwise and pull it straight out. Lint, hair, coins, candy wrappers, broken bits of plastic, it all ends up in here, and on a machine that's never had this done, that's the whole story. Wipe the housing out too. Line up the notch, screw the filter back in until it seats snug.

Pull the machine out from the wall and look the hose over for kinks, crushed spots, or an end shoved too far down the standpipe. About four inches into the drain pipe is right. Straighten it or reseat it, then run a rinse and spin.
- Listen while it tries to drain
Start a drain and spin and stand right next to the machine. Grinding or rattling usually points to a pump on its way out. Dead silence usually means the pump isn't running at all. Either way, remember what you heard so the technician knows where to start.
- Check the house drain itself
Watch the standpipe while the washer pumps. If it backs up, or a sink nearby is slow, the blockage is in your plumbing and not the appliance. That one belongs to a plumber.
