LG washer code IE: what it means and how to fix it
Your LG washer starts a cycle, sits there, then puts IE on the display and stops. The code is about water getting in, not about the wash itself. Below is what the code means, the checks worth doing before you call anyone, and what a technician will actually test if those checks come up clean.

IE (water inlet error) means the washer didn't reach its target water level within the time the control allows. Most of the time the water supply is the problem: a tap that isn't all the way open, a kinked fill hose, or clogged screens in the inlet valve behind the hoses.
Check these first
Safe to do yourself. Unplug the appliance before you start.
- Open both taps all the way
Turn the hot and cold valves fully counterclockwise. A tap that's only cracked open lets water in slowly, and slow counts as a fail to the control board. This is one of the most common fixes, especially after someone has worked on the plumbing.
- Look behind the machine for a kinked hose
Washers walk a little during spin, and that pinches the fill hoses against the wall. Pull the machine out and straighten them. If a hose has a hard crease or a bulge, replace it.
- Clean the inlet screens
Shut off both taps, unplug the washer, then unscrew the fill hoses from the back of the machine. Inside each valve port is a small mesh screen that traps grit and scale. Pull it with pliers, scrub it under running water with an old toothbrush, and put it back before you reconnect.
- Check how the drain hose is installed
If the drain hose goes more than about 4 inches into the standpipe, or it's lying on the floor instead of looped up, water siphons out as fast as it comes in. The washer never sees a full tub, so it throws IE. One zip tie holding the hose at the right height has solved this for plenty of people.
- Run a cold-only cycle as a test
Pick a cold wash and watch what happens. If cold fills fine but warm or hot cycles fault out, you've narrowed it to one side of the valve or one tap.
What's different in the Phoenix area
Inlet screens clog fast on Valley water
The small mesh screens where the hoses meet the machine catch sediment and scale. With local water hardness, a screen can block enough within a few years to trigger a fill error. Cleaning them is a common fix here.

Is 1E the same code as IE?
Yes. On most LG displays the capital I looks like a 1, so people read it as 1E. Same water inlet error.
How do I reset an LG washer after an IE code?
Press power to turn it off, unplug it for about a minute, then plug it back in and start a cycle. That clears the code, but it comes right back if the fill problem is still there.
Does it matter if only one tap is on?
